Midwifery Training Modules

I came across a series of training modules created by the World Health Organization to supplement midwifery training. So far I’ve read through the first one and found it direct, compelling, and valuable. The first lesson, which traces the case of a woman who dies of antepartum bleeding, highlights the socioeconomic foundations of the experience leading up to her death–they refer to her cause of death as poverty, whereas the case-study hospital lists it simply as ‘antepartum hemorrhage’. These lessons are useful not only for midwives, but for others who wish to learn more about materal mortality, what can be done about it, and the situations with which midwives are faced in the developing world.
